Most international students are required to pay a deposit in order to secure a place at the University. All students are required to pay up to a third of their annual tuition fees at or before enrolment on the course (except those JPA sponsored). If you have paid a deposit, this counts towards the third of the fees that you need to pay at or before enrolment.
Scholarships and discounts
Scholarships and discounts are available to international students:
L1000 Scholarship
L300 Early payment discount for international students
15% Alumni discount
Available to you if
youre an international student enrolling for the first time on a Staffordshire University degree course.
*Excludes students studying a PhD, the LPC, the IFP and English language courses.
you pay your total annual tuition fees at enrolment each year.*
*Not applicable for tuition fees of or less than L5,000 per year.
you have graduated from a Staffordshire University degree course.
* Includes students who have studied on one of our courses franchised to an international partner, and those who have completed a certificate or diploma at postgraduate level on-campus.
When you apply as an international student, your application will automatically be assessed for scholarship eligibility. A L1,000 scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit. If you have been successful, you will be notified when you receive an unconditional offer letter from us. The scholarship takes the form of a deduction of L1,000 from your first year annual tuition fees.
Deposits
International (non EU/UK) students enrolling at Staffordshire University from September 2007 will have to pay a pre-arrival deposit in order to secure their place on an undergraduate, postgraduate or IFP course.
When you have received an unconditional offer from us, you are required to pay a deposit to secure a visa support letter to assist you in obtaining a student visa.
The standard deposit is L2,500.
There are a few exceptions to this. JPA sponsored students from Malaysia and students from Staffordshire Universitys international partner institutions will not be required to pay a deposit. Students from China will be required to pay a reduced deposit of L1,000. This reduced fee takes account of currency transfer issues of which we have been made aware.
If you have applied via an agent, you can pay your deposit via them by bankers demand draft. The agent will transfer this to Staffordshire University, and you will be provided with a visa support letter.
If you have applied directly to the University, please see the following page for details of how to pay.
Please note that the deposit is non-refundable. If your visa application is rejected, you must supply the University or one of our recognised agents with official evidence of the rejection (eg documentation from the British High Commission) so that we can consider a refund. Students whose visa application is rejected on the basis of the presentation of fraudulent documentation will not be eligible for a refund.
Payment of a deposit and tuition fees
Most of our international students will be required to pay a deposit. All international students (except for those sponsored by JPA) will be required to pay a third of their annual tuition fee at or before enrolment on the course.
Please be aware that it can take a couple of weeks to open a UK bank account because of extensive security checks, so you must ensure that you have a means to pay a third of your annual tuition fees before or as soon as you arrive.
If you have applied via an agent, you can pay your deposit to the University via them using a bankers demand draft, which they will send to the University to release your visa support letter. You can also pay the balance of up to a third of your tuition fees via them in this way - or indeed, your whole annual tuition fee, if you prefer. We keep careful records of such payments so you can be confident that this is a safe and easy way to pay.
If you have applied directly to the University not using an agent, you can pay your deposit and tuition fees (in full, or up to a third) in the following ways:
by Bankers Draft payable to Staffordshire University. This should be posted to: Financial Services, Staffordshire University, PO Box 361, Stafford, ST18 9EF, United Kingdom.
by fund transfer from your bank account into the University's Lloyds TSB bank account:
To pay in this way before enrolment, you will be required to use your Application Number to verify your identity. After enrolment, when you are paying the balance of your fees, you can also use your Student Number or an Invoice Number to prove your identity.
When you have paid a third of your annual tuition fees and been enrolled at the University, you can either pay your fees in full, or in instalments. There are two ways to do this:
In 2 extra payments if you arrive in Semester 1 two payments, each counting for a third of the annual fee, can be paid on or by 11th January, 2008 and 25th April, 2008. (If you enter in Semester 2, Finance will provide you with two payment deadlines in 2008.)
In 7 instalments if you arrive in Semester 1, you can also make seven payments by Direct Debit from a UK bank account from 8th November 2007 to 8th May 2008. (If you enter in Semester 2, Finance will provide you with payments deadlines throughout 2008.)
Living costs
Staffordshire University is based in the County of Staffordshire, where the cost of living is among the lowest in the UK. Living costs are significantly lower than in London and other metropolitan areas of the UK. We estimate that you will require between L6,000 and L7,000 per calendar year. This would include accommodation, travel, food, books, stationery, clothes, contents insurance, police registration, leisure pursuits and clothing.
There are ways of economising, and the International Office will provide students will budget tips during International Welcome Week.
You will usually require a first degree (BA/BSc [Hons]) in a relevant subject, although we will consider other equivalent overseas qualifications and work experience, if you have been employed for several years in a relevant field.
